Videos are somewhat of a recent phenomenon but anyone who’s a fan of them know that they’re really hard to stop playing once you get started. There are plenty of reasons for this, many are immersive and are the perfect escape from realty. Others feed off of people’s natural competitive nature with scoreboards and incentives like achievements, rewards and badges. The reason games are so appealing is rooted deep in human psychology and there has been a recent trend to take advantage of this called gamification.

The definition of Gamification taken from Wikipedia: the use of game design techniques and mechanics to solve problems and engage audiences. This is the idea behind Foldit. It’s a game which researchers have developed in order to enlist the help of gamers in deciphering the structure of a key protein in the development AIDS. It’s a structure which scientists haven’t been able to identify for years but now have thanks to the online game Foldit. And it only took gamers three weeks to come up with the answer. Recently we began work with EcoLogics Energy Solutions. They’re a local company based out of Westport. They specialize in home insulation and since 40 percent of heating and cooling costs come from poorly insulated homes they’re able to reduce utility costs significantly. We overhauled their entire site and rebuilt it as a WordPress site. This makes it easier for them to make changes to it and add content as they see fit. We also did a good deal of improving the site by widening it’s format, creating a contact form and building a drop-down menu for the top nav. You can view the new site here.

A few days ago WordPress announced that they had been hacked. Someone was able to gain deep access into several of the company’s servers which holds information of their VIP accounts. We’re talking the big boys like TechCrunch and CBS. The unknown hacker could now have access to sensitive information like Twitter and Facebook passwords. So you can imagine how much trouble could come of this.

We were notified by Best Buy that the company they use to send emails to their customers had some of their files compromised. Best Buy claims the files only contained customer’s email addresses and that no other information was accessed.

The entire email was well written, upfront and honest. It’s a great example of a company treating their email recipients with respect. Hopefully, nothing serious comes of this breach but as far as public relations go they made a good first step.

Recently, we’ve begun working for New Haven, CT tattoo studio, Graphic Images. They came to us to help improve their local business profile. As with all of our local search marketing projects, we started by selecting statewide and local keywords to promote on their behalf. 3PRIME is also providing consultation on an hourly basis for Google AdWords management as an extension of the primary marketing services that we’re providing.

And we’re not done! For the final month of our engagement, 3PRIME will be employing targeted reciprocal link building. So far it’s looking very promising that this site, which isn’t even a year old, could rank #1 for its most competitive 2 word phrase.
