I have received half a dozen of these in the last week. The emails are unsolicited offers to “renew” your domain with the phrase” Final notice” in the subject to get people to open it. The top looks like this:

Then we have the “Scare Line”

And Finally, the false savings:

$75 for one year? This company and most of our clients are registered with GoDaddy, which has their own methods of boosting sales, but charges a fair price of around $12 per year for domain registration. Savings will not be found in this offer or ones like it!

Other info about this spam domain renewal email

The messages come from “codero.com” and also mentions “sesubmission.com“. It’s a shady tactic but perfectly legal. As they say in the fine print at the bottom:

Note that THIS IS NOT A BILL. This is a solicitation. You are under no obligation to pay the amounts stated unless you accept this offer. … There is no pre-existing relationship between DS and the domain mentioned above. This notice is not in any part associated with a continuation of services for domain registration.

Need great advice on an on-call basis? You need 3PRIME in your corner! We offer fair billing and never misrepresent what we do. Check out our testimonials and contact us today!

This non-profit, founded by a friend of ours in Boston, MA, seeks to make education in Moshi accessible. Through providing education necessities including tuition, essential supplies, nutritional supplements and uniforms when possible, Project MEMA is actively aiding 3 classrooms in Moshi, Tanzania.

In the past 3 years, the organization has grown and was in need of a new website. 3PRIME took there existing content including 5 pages, an excellent logo and a Paypal donate button and rebuilt the website using the Wordpress CMS. Take a look!

Instead of a finished website, this rebuild provides a strong platform for the organization to grow its online presence and continue to foster awareness and action.

3PRIME time and expertise is available for businesses new and old, large and small and non-profits of all sizes. One of our long-time clients demonstrates how consistent SEO earns great rankings for his school and church signs manufacturing business

It’s true that 3PRIME’s time on Quinnipiac Ave is drawing to a close. We’ve had a good four years here and our company has seen a great deal of success. But now we’re preparing to move and we’re actively seeking a new office space for mid-November, in the New Haven/North Haven area. If you have a space, or know of one, then feel free to call us at (203) 789-8229. The following is what we’re looking for in the new space:

600-800 sq ft

7 desks

Uncarpeted

Up to date wiring

Windows preferred

Ground Floor

None of these preferences are a must but ideally our new office would meet a majority of them. We’d greatly appreciate the help!

You can check out our press release about our latest endeavor.

Our Story
We started in the website design and marketing industry in 2003, just as Google came on the scene. We built sites that were geared to succeed in Google and other search engines, and that became our paradigm of approach to consulting, designing and building websites.

Now, there is a new shift, towards mobile devices and we aim to bring our experience to bear on this shift.

Our mission is to bring to market a durable and flexible tool for businesses to use to cater to this soon to dominate sector of their audience. Instead of focusing on getting people there, MobileSpringer is geared to ensure that a certain type of visitor is specifically catered to.

Are mobile users taking a more active role in making a decision right now? Are they special or different? We don’t know but we think businesses are thinking this and they need a way to address and manage these needs.

MobileSpringer Beta
The technology is ready for an initial level of use but will need further development.

To focus our development, we will take the input from our beta users before we set them up, after they are setup with MobileSpringer Beta and throughout their use of the beta, even as we create added functionality and build the active beta.

If you would like to participate, please visit MobileSpringer.com

And what brought me there? None other than the initial privacy-related email from Verizon. It’s all about my Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) and whether they can share it with their family of companies. Of course if trends continue, that family of companies might include content creators like Fox, so I’m going to opt-out.

No problem, click the button, right?

And now I have to disable my firewall to protect my privacy. I hope this doesn’t signal the fashion of the rest of the week!

Be Well!

Catching up with news this morning, I was pleasantly surprised by news that CIA, after 4 years of what I assume was painstaking intelligence work, tracked Osama Bin Laden to his home of at least the past 6 years. While I’d love to have heard that he was captured, the news that he was killed, removing his visage from the Most Wanted list (once they update their website), this is good news.

To read more, i found the following resources to be the most informative. I’ll be streaming NPR.org as long as they focus the news on this.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/world/asia/03pakistan.html

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2011/05/osama-bin-laden-dead-al-qaeda-islamabad-navy-seals.html

I close by offering my heartfelt support to those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001. This week will undoubtedly raise emotions not pondered in some years and our thoughts are with them today.

We get these fairly regularly (1 per week), and occasionally our website maintenance clients forward one to us. Who knows how much time their salespeople waste following up on fake orders, only to decide at the end that the order is fraudulent. Or worse, they ship the order only to find that the payment fails.

Review the following message and I’ll tell you how you know its a BS phishing or fake order spam in 5 seconds flat!
subject	Urgent Order
Good Day,

To Address: email isn’t sent to an appropriate person, strong signal it is spam and sent indiscriminately. In this case they BCC’d me, and I don’t even work there! If it makes no sense, don’t waste your valuable time on it!

Subject: Unspecific but related to an “Order” or “Purchase”. The fact that it doesn’t say anything about the order, why its urgent or what their timeline is all signal that the order is fake or seeking to start a scam.

Email Body: “With regards to your company” If they are ready to order, why wouldn’t they properly refer to your company?

How you know in 5 second flat that this is a fake order is that the text in the email body is being filled in by a script. In this case they encapsulated the variable values in parantheses and also failed to make the keyword blend with the text. Furthermore, the request about the product states that basically any size might do, clearly not an urgent need for anything specific.

The second way you know immediately that this is phishing related is they are offering upfront to use their credit card. Period. Real people don’t write emails like this.

If you want to look a little deeper, Google their email address: http://www.google.com/search?hl=&q=”carlh32@yahoo.com”

I choose this example as the best illustration to show that this scammer has been using the same lame script for a while now.
